I was blind, but now I see

Income tax returns, bonuses, every little bit of extra cash has been going into a savings account labeled "Shelley's Eyes". A week ago, we emptied that account and now, for the first time in nearly 25 years, I can see. I mean, we're talking 20/20.

As I lay in the "operating room" (that seems such an ominous word) and they were "cutting" on my eyeballs (that part freaks David out) all I could say to myself was, "Lord, I want to see." Over and over: Jesus: "What do you want?" Shelley: "Lord, I want to see."

The rest of that day is kind of a blur. Sara tells me I talked to her on the phone, but I don't remember it. I remember my eyes feeling scratchy (like there was sand in them) and I wanted desperately to rub them, but thanks to my designer goggles, I was not able to touch them. I slept most of the day and all night.

The next morning, I walked into the living room. I was standing at the end of the hallway, and looked into the dining room (across the living room) where the light was on and Samuel was standing there. And I started to cry, because I could see it all. It was amazing!!! I could see the TV in the living room of the neighbors behind our house. They were watching basketball. I drove the boys to school that morning and then went back for my "check-up". I looked at the eye chart and read the bottom line.

Thank you Lord for modern technology. Thank you for money. Thank you for the good gifts you give your children.

Anyone else had lasik? What was your experience? Have you gotten to where you take it for granted?

Congratulations on your "new" sight! I haven't had it done but know so many whose lives have been bettered by it. Hope there are no worries and all happy views. Sarah B

It just gets better and better and then all the sudden you realize that you haven't thought about it in weeks! I'm so happy for you. Praise the Lord for modern technology!

My mom and sister both have had lasik, and are so happy they did. My mom says she still gets a kick out of waking up during the night and being able to see the time! After a couple of years, she had to go back once because she got headaches (from the slight difference in her eyes), and they fixed the worse eye for free... who would have ever thought there would be a lifetime warranty on your eyes?!?
I'm so happy for you - I know it will make a world of difference! Enjoy it!
