Surprises

This past weekend was full of surprises. Here's the rundown:

1. Chris & Colby Hatchett along with Rick & Matthew Atchley came to Aggieland Saturday morning for the Nebraska/A&M game. We met up with them at Freebirds for lunch (trying to introduce them to authentic Aggie food). We enjoyed our burritos and then took this picture.
Matthew is the only Aggie fan in the group. In fact, Rick told me he would wear this shirt only if I promised not to tell his parents. I'm going on the assumption that they don't read my blog. :) (I think he also did it out of self defense. Since it was the official Maroon Out game of the season, he was afraid he'd get in trouble at the game if he didn't wear an Aggie shirt.) Some people said we accomplished the impossible by getting Chris & Rick in Aggie shirts. I told them they had never looked so good.

2. David & I were supposed to go to the game with some dear friends of ours, Jeremey & Lindsey Stover. But due to Surprise #4 (see below), Samuel took my place and was able to go to his first Aggie football game. It was a little hard for him because even the alumni stood up for most of the game (something we were not actually banking on) so it was hard for him to see and it got pretty cold. But he had a great time with our friends and, of course, he loved the band!! Unfortunately, the Aggies ran out of time in the end. :( I sent the camera with him to get pictures of everything. Here's the only picture he took.

3. Sunday was Harvest Sunday at RHCC. And Saturday night was the annual Harvest Banquet. Since my Dad is changing jobs from the Missions Minister to the Minister of Global Outreach (I'll try to explain the difference in a minute), the Missions Ministry did a special surprise tribute to him at the banquet, complete with a slideshow, plaque and a gift. He was very surprised! And honored! He deserved every bit of it (and more).

Minister of Global Outreach, as far as I know, does not have an official job description. Similar to the Minister of Missions not having a job description when he took that job 12 years ago. Dad is great at creating job descriptions as he goes along. :) RHCC has cast a vision for the year 2020 that includes several projects, including church planting locally, starting a University in Uganda, and several other projects that I don't know how to explain here in this blog. Anyway, the Minister of Global Outreach (Dad) will be the "Manager" of several of the 2020 Vision projects. Duane Jenks, former missionary to Brazil, current minister of outreach at RHCC and close friend of Dad's will become the new Missions Minister. Dad doesn't change offices or anything, just new projects to oversee.

4. Back to the surprises. Because Dad was being honored, Sara, David and I schemed for me to go to Ft. Worth to surprise both Mom & Dad at the Harvest Banquet. They were both very surprised! and happy! This required a little lying on Sara's part, but I think she was quickly forgiven. When I was in the process of deciding whether or not to go (last Wed.), no one else knew I was even thinking about it (other than David & Sara), and late Wed. night I get a call from the Praise Team at RHCC asking me to sing with them at the Harvest Banquet. I guess they just assumed I would be there. :) Fortunately for them, I was. And fortunately for me, I got to sing. (I would probably say that's what I miss most about RHCC). There's a family picture coming. I'll post it as soon as I have it.

All in all, it was a good weekend. The only thing that could have been better was getting to eat at Taco Bueno while in FW, but oh well! :) I drove home Sunday morning and was home in time to take Samuel to a birthday party.

Hope your weekend was as fun as mine.

Samuel also had his last soccer game Saturday morning. He even scored!!

Cute picture of my boys, wrestling.

What a great post! And what a great weekend! It was so fun to have you here for a few hours. And I'm glad Samuel got to go to the game, even if we did run out of time. You're the best sister ever and one of the best daughters around for giving up game day tickets. : )
Love,
Sara
